Likes are emotionally complicated.
"Turns out people push that button for very different reasons. A like means different things to different age groups." A research study on teens found that when they saw a photo with more likes, they more often blindly liked it themselves. Another study found Gen Z respondents actually disliked the like, viewing it as condescending. The power of the like has also diminished, thanks to the ability for brands to buy them.
